This year was Chelsea's second year in Figure Skating and her first year participating in the skating show. She has really excelled on the ice and absolutely loves to skate. Chelsea is going to shake things up a bit for next (school) year and play hockey instead of figure skating.
The week before the skating show is very hectic and I felt as if the ice arena was our second home. There were extra practices, a couple of rehearsals and then two show on the same day. I was worried about how Chelsea would handle it all (on top of school and her other activities) but she powered through and enjoyed every single minute. I loved watching her skate and loved that she was so happy, but I am happy the show is behind us now. I was more exhausted than she was!
I took this picture in the locker room the Wednesday before the recital. I volunteered as a room mom to help out with the Finale Practice.
Chelsea was getting antsy to get on the ice!
Finale Practice!
Figure Skating families mean business when it comes to reserving seats for the show. I was pre warned that I should bring masking tape to reserve seats for the show the day before. During the finale practice, 3 days before the show, I noticed that people were already reserving seats!!! I couldn't believe it and it still baffles me. I took a deep breath and asked someone to borrow their tape so I could block off seats.
Thursday night Chelsea had her last show number practice. Tyler, being the loving younger brother he is, always likes to tag along to Chelsea's activities!
The show was on Saturday and I took this picture on Thursday. Look at all these blocked off seats!
The kids and I taking a break from the arena and enjoying a trip to Costco. Costco is one of Chelsea and Tyler's favorite places to go. It must be the samples!
The kids helping me make a 'skinny strawberry pie' that afternoon. I love cooking / baking with the kids, but I would NOT recommend this recipe.
Chelsea WOULD recommend the recipe...
It's Friday night and dress rehearsal time! I volunteered as a room mom for the dress rehearsal not realizing that it would last atleast 4 hours... I kept myself busy and enjoyed spending this time with Chelsea so I didn't get too bored.
It was so cute... the girls would all lay down their blankets and share art, books, electronics and snacks. I felt lucky to have been able to quietly observe my baby girl with friends and being little miss social.
There were about 40 kids in this room! Luckily everything went smoothly.
sucker time!
The kids would put their skate guards in a pail before going out on the ice and then put them back on after their number. I like organization and wanted to keep busy so I'd sort through and line up all the skate guards for the kiddos to grab. I may be a little OCD...
Chelsea and two new friends taking 'selfies' on her Leap Pad.
After getting home shortly before 10pm from Dress Rehearsal the night before Chelsea was back at the rink for her first show at noon the next day! The second show was at 6 that evening.
She skated very well during both shows and I am so darn proud of my baby girl. She gives her all, has lots of talent, made lots of friends and shared all her stuff (snacks, art, etc) with girls who didn't have anything packed and had a smile on her face the entire time!
It was nice to be in the stands watching the shows and not back in the locker rooms. The show set looked great!
My parents and Tyler came to the first show with us!
Tyler waiting patiently for the show to start!
Some pictures I took during her performances
Tyler was very tired by the end of the show
Videos I took during Chelsea's skating shows
My parents stayed an extra day after Chelsea's skating show so we decided to head to the Science Museum on Sunday. None of us had ever been there so it was a fun adventure. We all had a really good time!
Tyler constantly wants my dad to carry him around and my dad happily obliges.
Chelsea wanted to get in the picture!
Cheese!
The Science Museum!
The kids really enjoyed this exhibit!
This is a really cute video I took of the kids playing together. They love each other so much and have so much fun together!
Dinosaurs! We really enjoyed the dinosaur exhibits and spend a lot of time on this floor.
This was a very impressive one!
Our attempt at getting a group picture!
This very patient man sat and taught us all about dinosaurs and answered all of the kids and my questions. He is definitely an asset to the dinosaur exhibits.
Chelsea being Chelsea!
My mom let the kids pick out gifts at the gift shop before we left. Chelsea picked out a really cute stuffed dinosaur and named her "La La". La La still sleeps with Chelsea every night and she treats the stuffed animal like her baby. Its really cute!
We recently painted most of our upstairs and purchased a new dining room table. The chandelier will be replaced and the rest of the room decorated within the week. This was our first time eating at our new table!
