Humboldt Iowa Christmas!

We headed down to Grandma Del's house in Humboldt last weekend to celebrate Christmas.  We try and attend each year and always look forward to celebrating with the Sandvigs.  Grandma Del is a wonderful hostess and everyone is so friendly, accepting and fun to be around.  We decided to stay an extra night this year so the kiddos could have more quality time with Grandma Del and get to know her better.

Last year Tyler, Chelsea and I were all very sick while in Humboldt and I was very excited that we were seemingly healthy this year the day before.  I should've knocked on wood because I came down with a nasty bout of food poisoning Friday afternoon (I'm staying FAR away from salad bars for a long time!) and into the evening until I finally 'passed out' around 10 that night.  I still felt pretty ill on Saturday morning but was feeling well enough to head down to Iowa.  Unfortunately I was recovering for most of our visit, but still had a great time and am so happy we made the trip.

I'll write more about the visit as picture captions.  Enjoy!

Time to eat!

Look at all that yummy food!  Grandma Del spoils us.  My favorite is her cheesy broccoli.  I look forward to stuffing my face with this dish every single year.  YUM!

Play time!  Lili hanging with Tyler.  Lili and Luci did a great job with helping Ben and I by entertaining Chelsea and Tyler.

Chelsea received this My Little Pony Sweatshirt from Jon and Shanna the night before we left for Iowa.  She INSISTED on wearing it for the car ride down.  What a perfect gift!  Tyler also wore his gift from Jon and Shanna (a really cute sweat suit) but we didn't get any pictures of him in the full get up.

Steve and Chelsea.  Chelsea changed into her Christmas Dress and was ready to open presents!

Grandma Del!

Tyler was very antsy to open presents.  He kept grabbing everyones presents and trying to rip them open.  Needless to say, the present opening was pretty hectic, but it ended up ok!

Chelsea latched onto Luci pretty quickly :)

Tyler deciding that he NEEDED to rip open the presents right away.  Eventually we just gave up and let him have at it!

Aunt Julie helped Tyler put together the fun gift that Lili and Luci bought for him.  I really don't know exactly what it's called (kind of a little race car track) but it is a hit!  The kids still play with it.

Chelsea really liked the orange hair extension she received from Lili and Luci!

Chelsea and Luci both happened to bring the same pajamas!  Luci was such a great sport with letting Chelsea follow her around.  Chelsea was so proud to wear the same PJ's as Luci.

Uncle Kent and Tyler!  Tyler loved playing with the flashlight and thought it was SO FUNNY when uncle Kent would shine it on him!

Tammy and Tyler with the bubbles she bought him.

 Basement ping pong time!

Luci and Chelsea snuggled up together watching a movie.  Thanks for setting this up Julie! :)

The next morning.  Color time!  Doug and Tammy bought Chelsea a fun sparkly marker coloring set.  It was a hit!

Breakfast time!

Chelsea was excited to show off her new Mini Mouse sweater!

 Kiddo ping pong time!

Uncle Doug was a big sucker for Tyler!  Tyler loves the movie Ice Age.  He kept demanding it, grabbing the movie and not so gently playing with it.  SO, I put the movie up high where he couldn't get it.  Tyler would back up into Doug, say "Ice Age" over and over again and look so cute that Doug was powerless over Tyler's request :)

Grandma Del Brought out some old toys that she kept around from when her Kent, Doug, Steve and Jane were young.  The kids loved it all! Del even let us take home two wooden train toys that the kids play with all the time.   Those toys are very special to us.  It's amazing how the quality of most toys nowadays is so much lower than back in the day.

Del let us take these two home!

One last snuggle with Uncle Steve before it was time to head back to Minneapolis.
